Searching for the best beaches outside London can be tricky depending on what you are looking for. We recently headed to Kent in search of the best beach location for a photoshoot. Blessed with a beautiful day, I’d definitely recommend a visit.
On arrival to Dover it’s pretty bleak, but don’t let that put you off. A short (or long depending on the root you take) walk up the hill and along the cliffs you’ll soon see why it’s attractive. The view of Dover crossing to Calais is stunning.
You are faced with an industrial ferry port, but it’s easy to soon forget. It’s a sight to see this contrast of manmade versus nature. There are several parking spots at the top of the cliff so if you didn’t want to take the long root from Dover sea front you can head straight up.

The national trust feature some great walks so definitely recommend checking this out before your trip to find the best beaches https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/the-white-cliffs-of-dover
Although the sea was clear, the beach here isn’t sandy. It’s also busy by the port so next we headed somewhere more secluded for the second location.
After some exercise on the cliff’s we recommend a 30 minute drive to Botany Bay. It’s quiet here so perfect if you want to escape. Although there is a small ice cream hut on the beach make sure you take refreshments.

Both locations are around about an hours drive from London. You can find more info on Botany Bay here http://www.visitthanet.co.uk/attractions/botany-bay/8670
We’d love to hear your thoughts and if you have any recommendations on the best beaches close to London?
